Guadalajara Travel Guide: Historic Center, Food & Day Trips

If Guadalajara is on your list, I’d use it as a home base and decide whether Tequila, Chapala or Ajijic fits your schedule and budget. Don’t try to squeeze everything into one day. Give yourself time to enjoy the markets, food and historic center without turning vacation into a race.

A suggested two-day city plan

  • Day 1, morning: Explore the cathedral area and nearby historic plazas. Take breaks rather than trying to see every sight.
  • Day 1, afternoon: Choose a market or museum, then try regional Jalisco food. Leave the evening flexible.
  • Day 2, morning: Return to a favorite area or choose a museum you missed.
  • Day 2, afternoon: Make time for a relaxed meal, shopping or a guided food experience. Avoid scheduling a distant outing just before a flight.
