Mexico Beaches & Neighborhoods Guide

Here’s my advice from living in Cabo: pick where you stay based on what you’ll actually do, not just the prettiest hotel photo. Beaches, restaurants, nightlife and transportation can make a big difference to your vacation — and your budget.

Compare Los Cabos areas

Cabo San LucasMarina activities, downtown restaurants and nightlifeNoise, walking distances and your exact hotel location
San José del CaboHistoric center, galleries and a quieter paceTravel to Cabo San Lucas activities and your return ride
Tourist CorridorResort-focused stays between the townsTransport costs and whether your beach allows swimming

Build a beach shortlist

🌴 Want to turn your beach shortlist into a real Cabo day? Read our Chileno vs. Santa María comparison for facilities, access and budget considerations. Then build your Cabo itinerary and save a copy before you travel. Beach conditions can change daily; check flags and local guidance when you arrive.

  • Médano: consider it for restaurants, activities and a lively Cabo beach day.
  • Chileno Bay and Santa Maria Bay: compare them for a beach and snorkeling outing when conditions permit.
  • Palmilla: consider it when exploring the San José side of Los Cabos.
  • Cerritos: include it in a Todos Santos day trip; assess local surf and safety conditions before entering the water.

Check conditions every visit. A beautiful or calm-looking beach is not necessarily safe. Follow posted flags, lifeguards and local advisories; avoid treating any beach description as a guarantee of safe swimming.

Choose beyond Cabo

For a city break, compare Mexico City and Guadalajara. For lakeside art and cafés, explore Ajijic and Lake Chapala. For Caribbean-coast ideas, start with Cancún.
